This is a live and virtual course designed for cardiologists, internists, nurse practitioners, nurses, physician assistants, and anyone who cares for patients with different types of amyloidosis. The majority of the speakers form part of our multidisciplinary amyloidosis team. There will be an emphasis on cardiac manifestations of amyloidosis, and experts in the fields of cardiac imaging, electrophysiology, and advanced heart failure and transplantation will discuss new diagnostic and therapeutic options. There will also be educational sessions on the neurologic, gastrointestinal, renal, and musculoskeletal manifestations of amyloidosis. Our experts in the AL Amyloidosis and Multiple Myeloma Program will provide an update on AL amyloidosis and ongoing clinical trials.
Educational Objectives
After participating in this activity, clinicians should be able to:
- Explain the advantages and disadvantages of different imaging techniques that can be used in the diagnosis and monitoring of cardiac amyloidosis
- Describe treatment options under investigation for amyloidosis
- Recognize potential barriers and learn about the process on creating an amyloidosis program/clinic
- Identify patients who would benefit from advanced heart failure therapies including heart transplantation
- Describe new treatment (e.g., pacing) strategies in patients with conduction system disease and atrial/ventricular arrhythmias
- Recognize the clinical contributions from different sub-specialists when caring for these patients
- Develop a mechanism to identify patients with advanced amyloidosis who could benefit from clinical trials and advanced therapeutics
- Diagnose the type of amyloidosis and implement a treatment strategy
Target Audience
Any healthcare provider who cares for patients with amyloidosis. This includes physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, physician assistants, medical students, and residents/fellows who specialize in Neurology, Gastroenterology, Hand Surgery, Hematology and Oncology.
