Overview

The overall goal of this fourth annual symposium is to provide a current, high-level summary of the state-of-the-art regarding mechanisms and management of pediatric UTI. A panel of experts will highlight knowledge gaps and making recommendations about next steps for research to guide the care of patients with UTI. This includes the role for host-pathogen interactions in UTI pathogenesis; host defense mechanisms to prevent and eradicate UTI; urologic evaluation of patients with recurrent UTI; antibiotic prophylaxis in UTI prevention; and the impact of recurrent UTI on the kidney. Facilitated discussions will provide opportunities to gather patient and caregiver perspectives and identify research opportunities and priorities, to achieve the best future for children with UTI.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:
  1. Describe mechanisms of urinary tract infection (UTI) pathogenesis
  2. Utilize emerging measures to prevent and treat UTI
  3. Implement the latest clinical approaches to UTI diagnosis, treatment and prevention
  4. Reduce the impact of UTI on patients and caregivers by implementing new strategies.
  5. Improve communication and collaboration with the healthcare team.
